The Review

The name, like the previous incarnation, is a play on the postal code of the brewery’s location, which changed a month or so ago when they moved to the mid-town brewery district.

This 473ml can pours a mostly clear, medium golden yellow colour, with three chubby fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent layered frilly lace around the glass as it slowly seeps away.

It smells of dank pine resin, bready and doughy cereal malt, some muddled domestic citrus rind, a hint of stoney flintiness, and more leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters.  The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, mild earthy yeasty notes, still mixed and matched generic citrus peel, some damp minerality, and more leafy, piney, and musky floral verdant hoppiness.  The carbonation is adequate in its palate-coating frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with perhaps a bit of hop acridity maybe not making nice with the locals here, as such.  It finishes trending dry, the hops increasing their stranglehold.

Overall – yup, this is one big-ass hoppy brew, and not only because of all the bunnies on the label, which I prefer much more to that other ‘beer’ that employs a rabbit theme.  And I don’t even have to look for them, they’re all over the place, drinking what I hope is beer, in a park near downtown Calgary.  Anyways, I digress, and reiterate – great stuff!
