The Review

This 355ml can pours a clear, medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy eggshell white head, which leaves some random splotchy lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, a subtle yeastiness, faint orange peel, some mixed coriander/black pepper spiciness, and ephemeral earthy, musty, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, a lesser edgy wheatiness, still hard to pinpoint citrus notes, more coriander and black peppercorn, faded estery yeast, and some plain earthy, floral, and grassy hoppiness. The carbonation is average in its palate-pleasing frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with perhaps a touch of spice maybe making a few unwelcome waves at this particular juncture. It finishes leaning dry, the yeast and spice leading the lingering flourish.
Overall – this comes across as a very pleasant and well-made version of the style, with the Alberta malt character once again exhibiting its striking quality. Crisp, and easy to put back, even if today calls for something more ‘seasonal’ – it’s snowing on September 21, is what I’m getting at.
