This 650ml bottle pours a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, finely foamy, and silken off-white head, which leaves nothing in the way of lace anywhere near the glass as it quickly dissipates.
It smells of tart lactic acid, gritty and grainy cereal malt, saltine crackers, and very, very tame earthy, musty, and floral hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready pale malt, a lesser biscuity wheatiness, soured milk, saline solution, and more well-understated musty, leafy, and dead floral hoppiness. The carbonation is quite active in its palate-searing frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, once one becomes acclimatized to the general acridity occurring here. It finishes dry, like if you salted the rim of a glass of Champagne.
Overall – this comes across as a dutifully rendered version of the style, nice and crisp and refreshing. Good to see local breweries nailing these brought back to life offerings. Definitely worth checking out, and don’t fuss with all those aftermarket syrups – this one is just fine on its own!
