This 330ml bottle pours a slightly hazy, medium golden apricot colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly fizzy off-white head, which leaves some layered streaky lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.
It smells of acrid orange zest, metallic cinnamon, gritty and grainy pale malt, some faintly estery Belgian yeastiness, and very subtle earthy, musty, and herbal old-school hop bitters. The taste is lush orange and lemon rind, faded cinnamon and black pepper spice, bready and grainy cereal malt, tame earthy yeast, and more well-understated leafy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness. The carbonation is adequate in its palate-satisfying frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a touch of citric acerbity maybe taking things down a notch at this particular point in the game. It finishes off-dry, the now sort of sugary orange and lingering malt making a day of it.
Overall – this comes across as a rather pleasant version of the style, all seasoned up (in more than one way). Full of flavour, and quite easy to drink, given that there is absolutely zero sign of the 18-proof booze quotient. Great stuff, ho ho ho, and all that.
