The Review

Beer Run is obviously a stellar name for a brew release, so I can’t believe that it’s not been used more often!  Cuing up some (probably inauthentic – there’s no AC/DC, for starters) Brocket 99 especially for this particular walk down memory lane.

This 22oz bottle pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with one fat finger of puffy, rocky, and somewhat bubbly ecru head, which leaves some decent layered snow rime lace around the glass as it lazily subsides.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, a touch of pale graininess, some mildly dank pine resin, tannic black tea, and a growing estery floral thing.  The taste is grainy and gritty pale malt, a lessening bready caramel sweetness, mixed light orchard stone fruit, some further spicy citrus rind, and more leafy, weedy, and sort of perfumed floral hoppiness.  The carbonation is pretty low-key in its gentle and coddling frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a nice creaminess tagging along from the outset, it would seem.  It finishes off-dry, the big malt still going toe-to-toe with the lingering fruity, piney, and – über alles – floral hop bitterness.

Overall, Beer Run is a pretty nice example of what this guy would typically consider worthy of the titular activity – nice and hoppy, with some variance beyond yer usual citrus/pine interplay.  Not to mention the very well integrated (read: undetectable) near 15-proof wowee sauce quotient – so, um, I won’t.  Good stuff.
