This 650ml bottle (156 of only 200) pours a very cloudy, salmon-tinged medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, rather loosely foamy, and above all fizzy off-white head, which leaves but a few disparate instances of sudsy speckled lace around the glass as things duly sink away.
It smells of tart white and rosé wine, a slight earthy and pale Italian cheese funk, grainy pale malt, and perhaps a touch of paint thinner. The taste is somewhat tart and muddled orchard fruit (lemon and underripe orange citrus, mostly), lazy yeast, relatively sweet grainy pale and caramel malt, a bit of mixed tabletop pepper mill output, and an ethereal earthy and leafy hop measure. The bubbles are quite pervasive in their equally frothy and fizzy meanderings, the body medium-light in weight, and actually fairly smooth, the soft carbonation going a long way in that respect. It finishes off-dry, the tart fruitiness contending with a lingering pale graininess.
I gotta say, this ranks up there with the better so-called Belgian-styled table beers kicking about, i.e. low ABV offerings that are still replete with flavour, as this one surely is. Fruity, yeasty, tart, and yet sufficiently malty – nothing to complain about here, except maybe my distinct lack of some pommes frites to go with it!
