The Review

Wow, they really went to town with the deep Scottish references on this one’s label.

This 473ml can pours a clear, dark bronzed amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly fizzy tan head, which leaves some flock of seagulls pattern lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.

It smells of bready and doughy cereal malt, some earthy nuttiness, generic pome fruity notes, and plain leafy, herbal, and floral green hop bitters.  The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a faint wispy smokiness, bruised red apples, and more understated leafy, musty, and grassy hoppiness.  The carbonation is average in its palate-coaxing frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and generally smooth, with nothing really extant here that might cause any sort of commotion.  It finishes off-dry, the biscuity malt more or less leading the lingering after-party.

Overall – this comes across as a rather well-rendered version of the style, nice and malty, with just a wee smoky character.  I’m not familiar with the weightings of kilts (if that’s even a real thing), but I suspect that they have undervalued themselves in the naming of this offering.  Full flavoured, and worthy of seeking out, lads and lasses!
