This 650ml bottle pours a clear, medium bronzed amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some splendid Swiss cheese pattern lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.
It smells of ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon spice, bready and doughy cereal malt, a bit of generic lactic sweetness, and some plain earthy, spicy, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, watery pumpkin pie (including the dollop of whipped cream on top, and heavy on the metallic cinnamon), and more understated leafy, musty, and floral hoppiness. The carbonation is fairly tame in its palate-pleasing frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and sort of smooth, as that spiciness takes things down a notch or so at this particular point in the game. It finishes trending dry, the spices really pushing the matter.
Overall – I’ve never had a pumpkin spice latte before, but I highly doubt that they are as zingy as this thing is, especially given the former’s stereotypical customer demographic. The English IPA side is essentially obliterated, other than providing a sturdy malt backbone, but that’s OK. Worth checking out.
