This 473ml can pours a murky, medium banana yellow colour, with two fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly chalky white head, which leaves some decent hanging curtain lace around the glass as it lazily sinks out of sight.
It smells of orange, red grapefruit, and lemon juice, gritty and grainy cereal malt, some further indistinct stone fruity notes, a hard water flintiness, and more leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, some damp minerality, an underripe peach fruitiness, muddled domestic citrus rind, and more leafy, floral, and resinous piney verdant hoppiness. The carbonation is adequate in its structurally supportive frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, with perhaps a soupcon of hop astringency exacting a minor tithe at this point in the game. It finishes trending dry, the crackery nature of the malt fading in the face of the lingering fruit and hoppy essences.
Overall – this comes across as a sort of beginner’s (ok, ‘beta’) version of the IPA sub-style, not particularly complex (the guest fruit don’t really materialize), but agreeable enough for all yer retro gaming needs. I’m watching the little one play Plants vs. Zombies 2, and he’s getting so damned good at it!
