This 650ml bottle pours a clear, bright medium copper amber hue, with three flabby fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some layered sudsy cloud lace around the glass as it gently subsides.
It smells of acrid, generic citrus rind, slightly musty pine resin, grainy pale malt, a soft bready caramel sweetness, and further leafy, minty, and spicy grass hop notes. The taste is a sharp pine needle greenness, orange and red grapefruit bitters, bready caramel malt, a spicy leafiness, crème de menthe, and some tame tropical, herbal, and lightly perfumed trailing hoppiness. The carbonation is quite light in its leading and lilting frothiness, the body punching at a sturdy middleweight, and generally smooth, the various swirling hops taking a pass on mucking about here. It finishes on the sweet side, both fruity hop and lingering malt assuming credit where it is due.
A pretty tasty and enjoyable iteration of this hop-shifting DIPA series – the blend providing a heady balance of fruity, bitter, and flavourful, with the stock Alley Kat malt turning in another productive day at work. Well worthy of a few rounds on a sunny Argyle Rd (who am I kidding, Whyte Ave) patio in the coming Edmonton summer months.
